Last week (21. – 23. May 2025), we had the privilege of participating in a three-day event dedicated to shaping academic and research careers across institutions, sectors, and borders. Hosted by FH St. Pölten – University of Applied Sciences and Bundesministerium für Frauen, Wissenschaft und Forschung (BMFWF), the event fostered meaningful discussions on career development and institutional support for researchers.
Among the highlights, Susanne Leeb collaborated with Lil Reif from FFG Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH to lead a workshop on practical strategies for supporting academic careers at the institutional level. Additionally, Mareike Kerschbaum-Nemec delivered a keynote on career opportunities beyond academia, followed by an insightful panel discussion featuring Susanne alongside Johanna Stadlbauer (Universität Graz) and Verena Seiboth (ISTA).
The event also provided valuable insights into the EU’s new Charter for Researchers, recommendations on academic career progression, intersectoral career paths, and ongoing efforts in research assessment reform.
We extend our gratitude to Giuliana Sabbatini, Carla Harold, and Katharina Riesinger for hosting this inspiring exchange, as well as to all speakers and participants who contributed to the dialogue.
