Seminar: Cultural communication and working with foreigners

How do foreigners perceive Slovaks?

Are we spontaneous?

Are we punctual?

Are we straight?

Are we mean to each other?

We looked at that with lecturer Mirka Molnar Lachka from PDCS.

One of the key points we addressed were the specifics of working with foreigners. The lecturer explained to us that working with people from different cultures requires not only language skills, but also understanding and sensitivity to cultural differences. Each culture has its own norms, values and ways of communicating that can affect the work environment and interactions between colleagues.

Another important topic was unconscious biases that can affect our work. Unconscious prejudices are automatic and often unconscious attitudes or stereotypes that we may have towards people from other cultures. These biases can affect our decision-making, behavior and communication.

At the end, we went through practical exercises and model situations.

This seminar gave us a deep insight into the complexity and importance of effective communication between different cultures.
