How can Slovakia attract and retain research talent? This question was also addressed at the expert event “Working Conditions in Research as a Key to Talent”, organised on 19 March 2026 by EURAXESS Slovakia (SAIA, n. o.).
The conference connected European initiatives such as HR Excellence in Research and EURAXESS with the practical experiences of domestic research institutions. The discussions showed that high‑quality working conditions, open recruitment processes, support for career development and mobility, as well as consistent implementation of the Charter and Code, form the foundation of a competitive research environment. Significant attention was also given to the development of modern doctoral schools.
The HRS4R team of the Slovak Academy of Sciences participated in the event also on the second day, when the programme continued with a workshop focused on OTM‑R in practice. The discussions and practical activities were dedicated mainly to transparent recruitment procedures and effective hiring processes, which are essential for building a high‑quality research environment.
